Bhagavad Gītā reveals that the true battle is not between people, but within each one: it is the struggle between the imperishable spirit and the mind bound to the senses, between truth and delusion, between love and desire, between peace and restlessness.
The ego or sense of self: It is a blind force that leads us to believe we are only the body, the name, the rank or our pleasures. It deceives us, manipulates us, causes us to fear, to desire and to grow angry, leading us astray.
The senses and energy channels: Within the human body flow the nadis — subtle channels through which life energy circulates, and at certain points are found the chakras — centres of power and consciousness. When the senses are unrestrained, they drag the mind along with them, far from truth. But when the spiritual eye is opened — that is, when understanding and pure consciousness arise — then the senses are kept under control, the horses walk the straight path, and the energy in the chakras flows in harmony.
CONCERNING THE ONE WHO SET FORTH THIS TEACHING
On the manner of this writing: I have preserved here the ancient and sacred language of the teachings, for eternal things do not conform to the hurried and changing speech of our days. It carries within itself the dignity, the mystery and the same meaning that the wise have heard and preserved throughout time, that it may remain pure and unchanging for every soul.
And I testify with humility: all that I have set down here comes not from my own wisdom or understanding. This work was born of inspiration from Above, and guided step by step by He Who is Truth itself. It was not I who composed it — but He placed the word within my heart and upon my fingers, clarified my mind and gave me the patience to verify, correct and place each verse with care, lest anything be changed or obscured.
I feel blessed to have been chosen to bring this Holy Teaching to light. To have been deemed worthy to draw from the eternal treasure and lay it before you, pure and whole. For this is not human speech — it is the Word that was spoken once, that remains forever, and that has the power to change lives, heal wounds and alter destinies.
If you read these words with an open heart, you shall feel that it was not I who wrote them. For the power lies not in the one who writes, but in Him who speaks through him. And this power — if received with faith — shall work within you also.
Glory, honour and thanks to the One God, Who is the source of all wisdom and every good word. And Who has granted that this book may see the light of day, for the benefit and salvation of souls.
